Are you looking for an opportunity to apply your mechanical engineering qualifications to solving problems that have never have been faced before?

RACE design, deliver and operate remote handling solutions for extreme environments using the latest technologies in robotics and automation. From our brand new purpose built facility at Culham, Oxfordshire the RACE team is working on a number of multi-year projects to design, manufacture and supply complex, innovative and yet to be conceived solutions to work in challenging environments.

We are seeking mechanical engineering graduates to work as part of the team that maintains the inside of the JET fusion reactor using advanced robotics. In this role you will learn about the latest developments in robotics and autonomous systems and how they can be applied to undertake complex tasks in hazardous environments.

You will apply your training in mechanical engineering to solve technical problems and will learn how to operate robotic systems in order to perform precision tasks remotely. These skills are central to RACE`s remit as a national centre of excellence in robotics for hazardous environments and autonomy. As your experience develops you will apply your knowledge to a wide range of international projects, providing specialist advice as a part of a larger design team.

Knowledge skills and experience

To succeed in this role you will need to enjoy being a "hands-on" engineer developing practical solutions to technical problems, you will have an awareness of engineering manufacturing techniques and you will have experience specifying, designing and assembling electro-mechanical systems. You will have a high level of attention to detail and a desire to ensure right-first-time results through meticulous planning.
