Are you an IT Professional with substantial knowledge and industry experience working on Microsoft Windows based PC systems?

The UK Atomic Energy Authority have an excellent opportunity for a PC Support Engineer/Administrator to join the growing team in the Windows Administration section of the IT department. The team currently consists of 3 members (comprising the senior section leader, a senior administrator and an assistant) who are responsible for managing the site-wide Microsoft based office computing and storage systems which has about 1300 users. This role would liaise and work with owners of diagnostic and control PCs to provide support and centralised administration of these systems.

Key accountabilities/responsibilities include:

-Maintenance & support for a significant number of existing Windows data acquisition and control systems and deployment of new systems.

-Liaising with users, suppliers and developers to integrate and support Windows based data-acquisition and control systems as specified by users.

-Windows workstation and server domain administration.

-Front-line support and problem-solving Develop and manage a system architecture as a template for new systems.

The UKAEA hosts and manages the JET nuclear fusion energy experiment on behalf of the EU and is also home to the UK`s MAST-U fusion energy experiment. UKAEA also works with industry and other third parties to develop new technologies currently in Remote Handling and Materials research. Following recent UK funding two new centres of excellence in tritium fuel handling and component testing and validation are being built. Knowledge skills and experience


Essential
-At least 5 years` experience managing PC/Windows systems.

-Detailed understanding of Microsoft Workstation & Server administration and Disaster Recovery (DR) processes.

-Good understanding of networking.

-Outgoing personality suitable for working in a diverse team.

-Excellent communication skills.

-Educated to at least HND level in a computer science or control engineering discipline or equivalent professional qualifications.


Desirable
-Windows domain administration.

-Working in a scientific/industrial environment.

-The support of data acquisition software and hardware.

-Knowledge of Microsoft Windows Embedded, legacy PC operating systems (previous versions of Windows, MS-DOS, etc.)
